Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

LiveCap is built to keep your audio on your Mac. Speech recognition runs on-device, and the sound you caption is never sent to us or to anyone else for transcription. This policy explains what that means in detail, and the few cases where data leaves your Mac — always at your request.

Captions and on-device processing

LiveCap captures the audio playing on your Mac and turns it into on-screen captions using Apple's on-device speech recognition. The audio is processed locally on your Mac. It is not uploaded, stored on a server, or shared with us or any third party for captioning.

Session recordings and transcripts

When you record a session, LiveCap saves the transcript on your own Mac so you can read it later. These recordings stay on your device. LiveCap does not sync them to a server, and we have no access to them.

You can delete a session at any time from within the app, which removes it from your Mac.

AI summaries (optional)

LiveCap can generate a summary of a transcript, but only if you choose to turn this on by entering your own OpenRouter API key. When you use it, the transcript text is sent to OpenRouter through your own account and key so it can produce the summary.

This step is entirely optional and never runs unless you add a key and request a summary. Because it uses your own OpenRouter account, that text is handled under OpenRouter's terms and privacy policy, not ours. If you never add a key, no transcript ever leaves your Mac.

What LiveCap does not collect

LiveCap has no account and no login. It does not collect personal information, does not build a profile of you, and includes no analytics or tracking inside the app. It does not read files or data outside of the audio you choose to caption.

Permissions

LiveCap asks for the Screen Recording permission on macOS. It uses this permission only to capture system audio for captions — it does not record, store, or transmit your screen or any video content.

This website

The getlivecap.com website uses standard analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to understand aggregate traffic — for example, how many people visit a page. This is separate from the app and helps us improve the site. Your browser settings let you limit or block these cookies.

Purchases

LiveCap is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles the payment and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment information.

Children

LiveCap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how LiveCap handles data, we will update this page and revise the date above. Continued use of LiveCap after a change means you accept the updated policy.
